Yet another super-hit that placed the crowning glory on Amitabh's crown. With Deewar, this tall, dark and handsome man consolidated his position in the film industry and came to be called the 'angry young man'. The other actors in the film were Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi and Neetu Singh. Deewar is a story of the good versus the bad. Shashi Kapoor is the good police officer and Amitabh Bachchan the bad smuggler. As it always happens in Hindi films, good wins in the end. But Amitabh's dramatic death on his mother's lap, in the end of the film won the audience. The message was clear. He was not bad, circumstances were. Nirupa Roy became the quintessential mother with Deewar.
